“Leadership for a 21st century church: a body theology”

From Dean & President Douglas Travis looking forward to the Presiding Bishop’s lecture:                                                                                                                                                          Things have changed . . . alot! Indeed, change has become normative for our culture. My grandfather was born before the Wright brothers flew at Kitty Hawk and before women had the vote. He lived to see the moon landing and massive cultural change. Not only did women receive suffrage during his life time – the civil rights movement sought to guarantee that all citizens were welcomed at the polls. The pace of change has not slowed. If anything it has quickened. And yet the constants have remained the same. We are all of us created in the image of God, and the charge of the Church is to lead all people to recognize, acknowledge and embrace “the dignity of every human being” and to strive for “justice and peace among all people”. (Cf., the Baptismal Vows, BCP, p. 305) The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, the first woman presiding bishop in the history of the Episcopal Church, models by word and deed the respect for the dignity of the human person and the pursuit of justice and peace which should mark all Christian leaders. It is an honor and a privilege to have her in our midst.
Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori will give the seminary’s 60th Anniversary lecture on Tuesday, Nov 27 at 7:00 p.m. Her topic is “Leadership for a 21st century church: a body theology.”
You’re invited to participate via live stream. Please RSVP on this link to view the lecture on your computer.
