The Episcopal Church needs a seminary which is preparing future leaders of the church to meet the needs of the growing Hispanic population in the United States. Seminary of the Southwest has offered a Hispanic emphasis in formation for multicultural ministry for over three decades, and we currently offer a Hispanic Ministry Concentration for students preparing for the ordained ministry.
One of the core values of Seminary of the Southwest is “Rootedness: embodying the richness of the Episcopal and Anglican traditions in particular contexts, especially that of the American Southwest and its Hispanic cultures.” It is totally appropriate that we reflect that core value in our worship life; therefore, we are committed to offering a bilingual Eucharist each week.
We are honored that the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori will preach and preside at the Spanish language Eucharist on Tuesday, November 27, as part of her visit to campus for our 60th Anniversary lecture which she will deliver later that evening.
Nathan Jennings is the J. Milton Richardson Associate Professor of Liturgics and Anglican Studies. Nathan attended University of Texas, Yale Divinity School, and The University of Virginia and has served at Seminary of the Southwest for 10 years.
