Applications invited for assistant professor of counselor education

Seminary of the Southwest is seeking to appoint a full-time Assistant Professor of Counselor Education to serve in the Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC) program beginning fall of 2016. A seminary of the Episcopal Church, Southwest prepares leaders for lay and ordained service within and outside the church. In addition to priestly formation and general academic study, the seminary houses special programs in Hispanic Church Studies, Counseling, Pastoral Care, and Spiritual Formation. The MAC program, part of the Loise Henderson Wessendorff Center for Christian Ministry and Vocation, prepares students for state licensure as Licensed Professional Counselors.
The counseling professor will teach within the MA in Counseling and will advise students in that program as well as contribute to the assessment and accreditation processes for the degree. The successful candidate will develop and teach courses in areas required by the state licensing board and by the accrediting organizations.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited graduate degree program. Experience in counseling and supervision of counselors is an advantage. The successful candidate will have a lively faith and a passion for the education and formation of counselors.
The Loise Henderson Wessendorff Center for Christian Ministry and Vocation is beginning the process of applying for CACREP accreditation and is forming a partnership with the Episcopal Health Foundation. Future MAC graduates will have the opportunity to be considered for generous stipends to work in underserved counties in Texas. The candidate should be willing to work toward both of these goals of accreditation and preparing students and graduates to serve in rural Texas counties.
Seminary of the Southwest is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer and is actively committed to diversity within its community. The successful candidate will be appointed for an initial two-year contract with renewable contracts and promotion possible thereafter. Though this position is non-tenure track, salary, benefits, and terms of promotion are the same as those for tenure-track and tenured faculty. Applications should include a cover letter responding to this position description, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation. Please email applications to Laurel Schlueder at [email protected]. Deadline for applications: October 30, 2015.
