We are seeking a highly-qualified lay person to serve in a key leadership role as our full-time Director of Parish Life and Christian Education, joining our dynamic parish in pursuing new and innovative ministries for the future of the Church. St. James’ is a resource-sized parish in northern Virginia, located sixty miles northwest of Washington DC, in one of the wealthiest and fastest-growing counties in the country. We are seeking to supplement our program staff with a person who would pursue a broad range of shared responsibilities, which depending upon qualifications, could include fostering ministries to: incorporate new and current members; provide gift identification, training and leadership support; develop and guide parish fellowship programs and events; oversee parish and community communications; and coordinate educational programming for children, youth and adults.

The Director of Parish Life and Christian Education ideally will: recruit, train, and support persons within a carefully-designed program to welcome and integrate others into the life of the parish; identify, equip, and guide persons who are called to lead various ministries based upon their identified gifts; build and strengthen caring relationships among parishioners to help create an integrated and supportive faith community; enable and promote the use of social media and other tools to enhance communication with members of the parish and the broader community; and develop and implement a comprehensive plan for a broad range of educational programs for persons of all ages to nurture growth in faith.

Requirements:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, experience in parish ministry, familiarity with the Episcopal tradition, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to work collaboratively and creatively, and a good sense of humor. Qualified candidates will be persons who observe a life of prayer, give generously to support God’s mission and ministry, pursue life-long learning, genuinely care about others, value the worship of God, and especially, believe in reaching out into God’s world to share the message of God’s love. Compensation is negotiable, and includes health insurance, vacation, pension, and other benefits.
