Bishop Rob Wright, dates, announced for 2017 Blandy Lectures

Seminary of the Southwest and the Southwest Alumni Association recently announced The Right Rev. Robert “Rob” C. Wright as the featured speaker at the 2017 Blandy Lectures and Alumni Convocation. This year will mark the 50th anniversary of this annual gathering created to honor The Very Rev. Gray M. Blandy for his ministry and work as the first dean of the Seminary of the Southwest.
The announced dates for the convocation are Tuesday, September 26, 2017, and Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
Trustee and alumnus, The Very Rev. Chad Vaughn, ’06, shared of Wright, “Since becoming Bishop of Atlanta, Bishop Wright has embodied a prophetic public witness for the Diocese of Atlanta helping Episcopalians in Middle and North Georgia find God working in all sorts of places where the Church may have not previously looked.  His episcopate has been focused on discerning ‘Purpose’ for the work of the Diocese, cultivating Christian Maturity among all of the baptized, and exploring racial, cultural, and interfaith healing and reconciliation.  He is a bishop in the tradition of Southwest founder John E. Hines — seeking to connect the Good News of Jesus Christ with the context of the local community and the World.”
The Very Rev. Cynthia Briggs Kittredge, Dean and President shared her excitement upon the announcement. “Bishop Wright is a recognized leader in the Episcopal Church and his experience and skill are in great demand. We are grateful our alumni/ae will have the opportunity to witness his gifts here at the seminary.”
Continuing education topics this year are centered on the Christian Perspective on Money and Spiritual Health and Well-Being. Sessions will be taught by current seminary faculty, including a session by Dean Kittredge.
The two-day convocation will take place on the Seminary of the Southwest campus. The full schedule will be made available at the beginning of June. Please check back for more details here: http://ssw.edu/event/2017-blandy-lectures-alumni-convocation/
