DEADLINE EXTENDED: Latinx Studies for a 21st Century Church

CALL FOR PAPERS:

Latinx Studies for a 21st Century Church: A Conference on Episcopal Cultures
Thursday, October 11–Saturday, October 13, 2018
Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, TX
THE CALL: We seek paper proposals for a conference dedicated to launching a scholarly discussion of Latinx Studies within and with reference to the Anglican/Episcopal context. Select conference papers will be published in a related issue of the Anglican Theological Review.
We invite established and emerging scholars to present research-based reflections on culture, ritual, the theo-politics of immigration, history, ecclesiology, congregational practice, critical race theory, and gender and sexuality. We note that while conversations about Latino practice within the Episcopal context abound, these remain on the anecdotal level. Existing opportunities for reflection and learning are often limited to traditional folkways, liturgical practices, introduction to institutional structures, and bilingual proficiency. With this call, we are looking to produce new research and new knowledge engaging the Latino Episcopal context.
Proposals: Proposals must contain: (1) a paper title; (2) author’s name and affiliation; (3) abstract of 150 words; (4) a proposal narrative of 1000 words; and (5) a bibliography (not to exceed one page).  Priority will be given to those papers that offer original research (sociological, ethnographic, historical, literary, theological, etc.) and demonstrated engagement with relevant scholarly literatures.
Deadline: Proposals must be submitted in a single PDF document by June 30th, 2018, to the conference organizers, the Rev. Dr. Altagracia Perez-Bullard [email protected] and the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Hughes at [email protected]. Email subject heading should read: LatinX Studies Proposal.
Publication Opportunity: Accepted conference papers are eligible for consideration for publication in a thematic issue of the Anglican Theological Review dedicated to this topic.
Financial Assistance: Financial assistance toward the cost of attendance is available for those with accepted papers.
