Professor of Pastoral Theology and Director of Field Education

SEMINARY OF THE SOUTHWEST invites applications for a full-time Professor of Pastoral Theology and Director of Field Education to begin Fall of 2022. 

A seminary of the Episcopal Church located in Austin, TX, Southwest forms students for vocations of ministry, service, and healing. The seminary offers degrees in divinity,  clinical mental health counseling, spiritual formation, and religion. It also houses special programs in Latinx studies and chaplaincy (healthcare, military, and school).

The Pastoral Theology professor will teach courses in areas of practical ministry such as pastoral care, pastoral identity, congregational development, spirituality, evangelism, stewardship, mission, and leading in a public context. They will also direct theological field education and contribute to the overall formation of leaders within the Episcopal/Anglican tradition. 

The position requires full participation in the academic, pastoral, and communal life of the seminary and includes student advising, liturgical leadership, and committee responsibilities. The successful candidate will have proven teaching ability, be ordained in the Episcopal Church, and have parish pastoral leadership experience. The person will be prepared to engage a changing church and a changing culture in order to help students envision and enact innovative ministries. 

A person of lively faith, the appointee will have a passion for the formation of Christians in a variety of vocations and across a diversity of contemporary ecclesial contexts. The seminary values a collegial working style and encourages interdisciplinary conversation, team teaching, and shared administrative leadership. A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Th.D., or D.Min.) in Pastoral Theology or a closely related field is preferred. Rank is open.
