Every Advent, I reflect daily on how I am living out my Baptismal Covenant. Am I living my life patterned after the life of Christ both individually and as part of the body of Christ that is the church? Have I committed my life to Christ regardless of the level of challenging circumstances or amount of sacrifice required to live out these promises? Am I giving of myself and living my life in such a way as to make a difference in the lives of others? Am I hanging on to more material goods or money than I really need out of the fear of not having enough to provide for my own needs? Am I honest in defining needs verses wants? Do I judge others on outside appearances before learning to see them as Christ sees them?
We live in a world that tempts us to put ourselves first. It is easy to sum up the needs of the world as too vast or too severe for one person to make a difference, but if each of us live out the “I will, with God’s help” in our own lives and in our lives as the church, then Christ will be seen, served, and revealed as a light to all people and God will be glorified.
When hope conquers fear and awareness of the abundance of God’s generosity perseveres over scarcity, God takes what we offer and uses it to bless and feed in ways that are beyond our imagination.
Give us the humility to repent when we have been blind in seeking and serving Christ, trusting in your redemptive love. Amen.

Lisa Mason as had the honor to serve St David’s San Antonio since June, 2009. She loves being the church in the world and using our gifts and resources to be instruments of God’s love and grace and mercy. She is active in her diocese through camps and conference ministry, development committee, standing committee, Episcopal Schools Commission, and the discernment committee. She enjoys spending time with her husband Kirk, their two grown sons, Rand and John, and family and friends. She also enjoys reading, running, water sports, and being outdoors.
