Horacio Pena honored by the City of Miami

assocfac_Horacio_Pena_oct08Dr. Horacio Pena, senior instructor at Seminary of the Southwest teaching the Spanish language since 1980, received a tribute from the City of Miami “for his achievements as poet, short-story writer, essayist, movie critic and translator from the English and French. We are proud to receive him as Guest of Honor and proclaim him, Distinguished Visitor of the City of Miami.”
Dr. Pena was honored during the week in February 2016 devoted to honor Nicaraguan poet Ruben Dario (1867-1916). “Dario is to Hispanic literature what Walt Whitman is to the American literature,” says Dr. Pena.
During the cultural week, February 6-13, in Miami, Pena participated in a symposium; delivered a lecture, “The I in Ruben Dario,” in the Miami Dade College InterAmerican Campus; and made a presentation of the anthology “Voces del Exilio,” for which he wrote the introduction.
Southwest’s Academic Dean Scott Bader-Saye offered congratulations to Dr. Pena. “Horacio Pena has made many significant contributions to the literary world, and we are fortunate to enjoy this distinguished poet on our campus helping prepare our students in the Spanish language,” says Bader-Saye.
