Holy Week and the Triduum

Seminary of the Southwest will begin its observance of Holy Week and the Triduum on Monday, April 14th. The paschal mystery we celebrate is the energizing source of our life together.

The entire community is invited and encouraged to attend. Families are welcome, as are any guests. We expect all students preparing for ordained ministry to participate in the week’s liturgies. Faculty members will be preaching at the Eucharist each day.

On Monday through Wednesday of Holy Week, the worship schedule is as usual: Morning Prayer at 9:30 a.m., Eucharist at 11:45 a.m., and Evening Prayer at 5 p.m.. Unless otherwise noted, all services will be celebrated with procession and music and held in Christ Chapel.

Please note the following unique Holy Week services:

Holy Tuesday (April 15, 2025)

• Tenebrae, 7:00 p.m., Christ Chapel

This Tenebrae will be an abbreviated office structured around chanted psalms, readings, and responsories. The distinctive ceremonial of the service includes fifteen candles, ultimately symbolizing the triumph of Christ over evil and death.

Holy Wednesday (April 16, 2025)

• Latinx concentration building alfombras, 2:00 p.m., in Christ Chapel

Maundy Thursday (April 17, 2025)

• Noonday Prayer, 11:45 a.m., Christ Chapel, with the Exhortation

• Maundy Thursday Holy Eucharist, 5:30 p.m., Christ Chapel

• Maundy Thursday Agape Meal, following Maundy Thursday service, Dining Hall
  

Join us for an Agape Meal after the Maundy Thursday service. We’ll enjoy a delicious meal with our families and friends. RSVP coming soon.

• Overnight “Vigil in the Garden” 8pm – 11:45am, Christ Chapel

Following the Maundy Thursday service and Agape meal, an all-night vigil will be held in the chapel. You and members of your household are invited to symbolically keep watch with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane through the night in one-hour increments.

Good Friday (April 18, 2025)

No Office services today.

• Good Friday Service of Solemn Collects together with Veneration of the Cross and Communion from the Reserve, 11:45 a.m., Christ Chapel

• Vía Crucis, 1:30 p.m., at the Duval Landing

Pray the fourteen Stations of the Cross with a solemn bilingual service with movement and music. All community members are welcome — no knowledge of Spanish required.

Holy Saturday (April 19, 2025)

• Holy Saturday Liturgy, 11:45 a.m., Christ Chapel

If serving as a minister, please arrive at 11:15 a.m.

• The Great Vigil of Easter, 8:00 p.m., Christ Chapel

Preacher: Dr. Scott Bader-Saye

Clergy from the Southwest community and others who would like to join should arrive at 7:15 p.m. in order to vest and line up for the procession. Clergy should bring a cassock, surplice, and while stole.
