Harry Ransom Center Provides Students Look into Early Editions of the Book of Common Prayer

Professors Steve Bishop, Jeehei Park, and Madeline Hawley along with Librarians Duane Carter and Marlon Patterson, took the Junior class and others for a curated exhibit at the Harry Ransom Center of the University of Texas at Austin campus. The exhibit included the forged “Mayflower Bible”, a first edition King James Version, a Polyglot Bible, and the First and Second Prayer Books of King Edward VI, in addition to about half a dozen more. Ransom Center curator, Aaron Pratt, explained the publishing history of each volume along with the provenance of each book. Students were able to examine and photograph all of the books on display.

Each year Biblical Studies Professors Steve Bishop and Jeehei Park arrange for students to enjoy this exhibit curated especially for them. We are especially fortunate to have a top-tier research University so near us and grateful to the staff at the HRC for providing the materials and the expertise in presenting this collection to deepen our understanding of the history of the Bible in English.
