On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, the community of Seminary of the Southwest held the annual celebration of its founder, the Rt. Rev. John E. Hines. The traditional midday Eucharist in Christ Chapel on the Southwest campus, was followed with a celebratory lunch following in the Howell Dining Hall. During the luncheon, members of the John Hines Legacy Society were recognized and honored.
The special day was elevated further as the Rev. Dr. Dominique Robinson, the Bishop John E. Hines Assistant Professor of Preaching, delivered the sermon. The Rt. Rev. Kathryn M. Ryan, Bishop Suffragan, Diocese of Texas, presided and led an installation of the four new members of the Board of Trustees.
“John Hines Day is always a wonderful celebration of friends and supporters of Southwest,” said Dr. Scott Bader-Saye, dean and president. “Bishop Hines’ foundational vision of a seminary at the intersection of church and culture remains a strong touchstone on our campus. The Rev. Dominique Robinson, who holds the Bishop John E. Hines Chair in Preaching, gifted the community with powerful words about Amos, the plumb line, and our responsibility to follow the vision of our founder. I am grateful to everyone who joined us and made this day happen.”
