Academic Dean Scott Bader-Saye announced the hire of Awa Jangha as Assistant Professor of Counselor Education as approved by the seminary’s board of trustees at their meeting on February 11, 2016.
Ms. Jangha is currently completing her PhD in Pastoral Counseling–Counselor Education and Supervision at Loyola University in Maryland. She holds an MA in Creative Arts in Therapy from Drexel University, an MEd in Moderate Special Needs from Boston College, and a BA in Spanish and Art from Fisk University.
Awa Jangha is a licensed professional counselor and a licensed art therapist. Her brief self-introduction can be viewed here on YouTube, and the website for Awa’s counseling practice, Art and Spirit Counseling, is viewed here.
Dr. Bader-Saye commented, “Awa Jangha will bring great complementary gifts to our already strong team of counselor educators. We are excited to be developing the counseling degree as a core offering of the seminary and to be expanding the reach of spiritually integrated counseling services in Texas and throughout the country.” Ms. Jangha will begin July 1, 2016.
Seminary of the Southwest offers a unique accredited Master’s in Counseling which integrates counseling theories and techniques with pastoral approaches and perspectives. Ms. Jangha will join the current full time counselor education faculty, Dr. Gena Minnix and Dr. Stephanie Ramirez.
The seminary’s counseling graduates may apply for a two year paid internship serving at a mental health facility in East Texas, thanks to a partnership between Seminary of the Southwest and Episcopal Foundation of Texas. Bishop Dena A. Harrison Fellows Program aspires to place faithful, imaginative and highly educated mental health care workers in underserved counties in the Diocese of Texas.
