Conference on youth ministry for Hispanic communities
Crossing the Border, the semi-annual conference co-sponsored by Hispanic Church Studies at Seminary of the Southwest, Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and the Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest provides continuing education for Spanish-speaking clergy and laity.
Southwest celebrates Black History Month
The events during Black History Month at Southwest celebrated the leadership of and gifts from African Americans in our community and beyond.
A reception and show featuring local artists Chesiel Johns, John Langmore, Arline Polite, Naomi Richard, Jannifer Gleaspies Williams and Larry Williams kicked off the series. Guests were treated to conversation with the artists and the beautiful music provided by violinist Ms. Robin Burwell from the Austin Symphony.

Church history faculty hire announced
The Board of Trustees of Seminary of the Southwest approved the nomination of Dr. Dan Joslyn-Siemiatkoski to the faculty at their February 6 meeting on the campus in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Joslyn-Siemiatkoski will be associate professor of church history, and his tenure at Southwest will begin in Fall 2014.

In time for Christmas gift giving or for your own reading, Elements of Grace by Barkley S. Thompson, MDiv '03 is due out this month. Published by Trinity Books, Elements of Grace includes Thompson's meditations which combine stories from Scripture and stories from everyday life.
Fellowship is awarded to Al Rodriguez
The Episcopal Church Foundation has awarded a fellowship to the Rev. Al Rodriguez, Southwest alumnus and rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, Austin, for his project, The American Latino Outreach (ALEO), which is focused on American born Latinos and those brought into this country as young children.
