57th Blandy Lecture & Alumni Convocation

Please join the community of Seminary of the Southwest for the 57th Annual Blandy Lecture and Alumni Convocation on November 18-19, 2025.

This year’s Blandy lecturer is Kazu Haga. A respected voice in the fields of nonviolence and restorative justice, Haga brings decades of experience in social change and community healing to this year’s event. Kazu Haga’s lecture will be themed on “Spiritual Foundations of Nonviolent Resistance.”

In addition to the lecture, highlights include:

  • Specific programming geared toward Theology and Counseling alumni (see below)
  • Presentation of the Hal Brook Perry Award and the inaugural Dave Scheider Award (learn more here)
  • A Continuing Education workshop opportunity with Blandy Lecturer, Kazu Haga and Dr. Gena St. David (learn more here)
  • A “dinner by the bite” reception before the lecture, where alumni can mingle with current students and faculty

Tuesday, November 18 on Zoom
  • 7:00pm Alumni Reunion hosted by the Alumni Steering Committee (Join on Zoom)
Wednesday, November 19 on the Seminary of the Southwest campus
  • 8:30am: Check in (Weeks Center)
  • 9:00am: Morning Prayer (Christ Chapel)
  • 9:30am to 11:30am: Opportunity to observe one of the following classes:
    • New Testament 1 – Rev. Jeehei Park, Ph.D.
    • Theology 1 – Dr. Anthony Baker
    • Anglican Studies – the Rev. Nancy Frausto and the Rev. Nathan Jennings, Ph.D. 
  • 11:45am: Holy Eucharist and presentation of the Hal Brook Perry Award* (Christ Chapel)
    • Presider: the Rev. Constance Coleman-Fletcher, MDiv Class of 2020
    • Preacher: the Rev. Minerva Skeith, MDiv Class of 2019
  • 12:45pm: Community Lunch (Howell Dining Hall)
  • 2:00pm: Explore campus on your own (check out the Harrison Library, Teaching Chapel, and Southwest Bookstore)
  • 5:00pm: Evening Prayer on Duval Landing or Christ Chapel (location is weather dependent)
  • 5:00pm: Workshop: Embodied Nonviolence in a Time of Collective Tension: A Conversation with Kazu Haga & Gena St. David – geared for current MHC students and MHC alumni, all are welcome for this in-depth discussion (Knapp Auditorium)
  • 6:00pm: Reception “Dinner by the Bite” (Howell Dining Hall)
  • 7:00pm: Blandy Lecture (“Spiritual Foundations of Nonviolent Resistance“)with Kazu Haga and presentation of the Dave Scheider Award* (Knapp Auditorium)
