An Evening of Latin American Art & Culture

< Back

May 12 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Join us for An Evening of Latin American Art & Culture

7:00pm-8:30pm ~ Knapp Auditorium

Performances by local Austin dancers, poets, and musicians

8:30pm-10:00pm ~ Howell Dining Hall

Enjoy refreshments provided by Paellas, Tapas & More while being surrounded by local Latina and Latino artwork

Featured artists include dancer Karen Bravo, who will perform Sevillanas, a song and dance form typical of the Spanish town of Seville, but which are sung and danced across the Andalusian region.

Amy Zamarripa will be showing her acrylic on glass paintings. The images represent her transformational journey and are intended to impart the peace, joy and satisfaction found in a life well lived. Also, she will speak on "How it feels to be Latina in the world today," and she will perform her original music compositions.

Mickey Jacobs and Orazzio Loayza, dance instructors at Esquina Tango, will perform a dance from Buenos Aires. The melodies, lyrics and moves of the Argentine Tango are known for nostalgia and passion. Once forbidden in proper Argentine society, today Tango is embraced and danced all over the world.
