2013 Program and Schedule of Events
On Saturday, February 23, Seminary of the Southwest will host the annual Central Texas Colloquium on Religion Research Conference. The schedule is 8:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Lunch is included and Dr. Oliver Freiberger, associate professor of religious studies and Asian studies at University of Texas at Austin will give the keynote.
The conference provides an opportunity for graduate and advanced undergraduate students in Central Texas to present original research and receive critical feedback within a creative and academic atmosphere. The conference is organized by graduate students and professors from universities, colleges and seminaries in Central Texas and seeks to foster intellectual dialogue among scholars of religion within our area.
Four Southwest seminarians are slated to present papers at the event: Christian Hawley presenting “On the Need for Theological Reflection on PTSD”; Christine Havens, presenting “An Atheist’s Eye View of Faith: Terry Pratchett’s Nation”; Cody Nygard, presenting “The Ordinance of Footwashing: A Core Practice of Appalachain Folk Christianity”; and Julie Clawson, presenting “The Parable of the Madman with a Box: The Theopoetics of ‘Doctor Who.’”
There is no registration fee and the conference is open to the public.
