Crossing the Border Day of Theological Education

Hispanic Church Studies at Seminary of the Southwest is partnering with Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Lutheran Seminary Program in the Southwest to offer "Crossing the Border: Themes of Resurrection" on Saturday, April 27, 9:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. at APTS's McCord Community Center.

The registration fee of $15.00 includes lunch.

“Where God Hides Holiness” Book Signing

Authors of the blog "Dirty Sexy Ministry", Laurie M. Brock and Mary E. Koppel, will sign their book Where God Hides Holiness--Thoughts on Grief, Joy and the Search for Fabulous Heels, at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, April 29 in the Weeks Campus Center.

All are welcome. Books will be available for purchase in the seminary's bookstore.

The Rev. Laurie M. Brock is rector of Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lexington, KY and the Rev. Mary E. Koppel is Priest for Outreach at Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin, TX.

Commencement 2013

Seminary of the Southwest held its Sixty-second Commencement on Tuesday, May 14, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Austin. The Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, the Rt. Rev. Michael B. Curry, preached at the service of Holy Eucharist.                                  

Role of preacher in the sermon is continuing ed topic

Is preaching just one more item on your to-do list, or is it part of your identity, part of  your self? We'll be looking at this topic and others, including the preacher alone and in community, the place of the preacher in the sermon, and the preacher as sermon. Join us for this practical and philosophical look at the role of the preacher in today's church. 

Hispanic Clergy Conference slated for August

Seminary of the Southwest invites all clergy who are involved in Latino/Hispanic Ministry to the 2013 Clergy Latino Ministry Conference to be held in Austin on August 12 –14, 2013 at the seminary’s campus in Austin, Texas. Southwest has been sponsoring this popular annual conference for the last ten years.

Welcoming new students, installing academic dean, honoring servant leader

On Sunday, September 8 at 5:00 p.m. the community and friends of Seminary of the Southwest will gather for Matriculation Evensong in Christ Chapel on the seminary campus.

The Very Rev. Cynthia Briggs Kittredge, dean and president, will preside and Academic Dean Dr. Scott Bader-Saye will preach at the service which will include the presentation of the Charles J. Cook Award in Servant Leadership, the installation of Bader-Saye as academic dean, and the matriculation of students enrolled for fall 2013 in four master's degrees and the diploma program at Southwest.

Installation of our eighth dean and president

Seminary of the Southwest will celebrate the installation of Cynthia Briggs Kittredge as dean and president with a  festival Eucharist on Friday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.  A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.

2013 Blandy Lectures

Seminary of the Southwest and the Southwest Alumni Association are honored to welcome the Rev. Tom Brackett as the 2013 Blandy lecturer on Tuesday, September 17 through Wednesday, September 18. 

Brackett is the missioner for church planting, ministry redevelopment and Fresh Expressions of Church for The Episcopal Church.

The topic of his lectures is Postcards From the Edge of Ministry.
