Joslyn-Siemiatkoski and Patterson win Conant grants

Dr. Dan Joslyn-Siemiatkoski and the Rev. Jane Patterson, PhD are two of the 19 winners of Conant Grants from The Episcopal Church for the 2016-17 academic year.
The Conant Funds are made available to faculty of Episcopal seminaries to support their research, writing and course development. William S. and Mary M. Conant established the trust in 1953 to provide for the improvement of seminary-based theological education.
Joslyn-Siemiatkoski’s project is titled “Anglican Divines and the Jewish Tradition: Resourcing an Anglican Theology of Religions.” His grant proposal states: “Richard Hooker and Lancelot Andrewes utilized Jewish sources in texts that contributed significantly to the formation of Anglican identity. This project will investigate how each figure engaged with Jewish tradition and writings.” Dr. Joslyn-Siemiatkoski is associate professor of church history at Seminary of the Southwest. The formation of Anglicanism and Jewish-Christian relations are his main research and teaching interests and this project synthesizes these two interests.
Dr. Patterson’s grant will enable her to return to India to conduct a second round of interviews with mature Christians who work among the ministries associated with Vellore Christian Medical Hospital and College and St. John’s Church (Vellore). Her interest is the life-long maturation and integration of a Christian practice and vocation. Patterson has long combined academic study of the New Testament with practical theological endeavors, and this project continues her work in that vein. Dr. Patterson is assistant professor of New Testament at Seminary of the Southwest and Director of Community Care.
