Over the summer, the seminary Board of Trustees was proud to announce the promotion of two esteemed members of the faculty.
The Rev. Daniel Joslyn-Siemiatkoski, PhD, was promoted to full professor. Joslyn-Siemiatkoski is the Duncalf-Villavaso Professor of Church History, and this semester serves as the Acting Academic Dean while Dr. Scott Bader-Saye is on sabbatical. Joslyn-Siemiatkoski was also recently ordained into the diaconate in the diocese of California.
Said Bader-Saye, “Dan hit the ground running when he joined the faculty in 2014. His previous experience teaching in an Episcopal seminary prepared him well to contribute to our common life with great skill and insight from day one. It is with joy that I announce his promotion to the rank of Professor. This is the highest rank available to faculty, and it reflects the deliberation of his peers that he has displayed outstanding ability across the areas of teaching, scholarship, administration, and student formation. Students consistently praise Dan for his pedagogical expertise, combining high standards with a true care for students’ well-being. I am pleased that we can mark Dan’s excellent work with this well-deserved promotion.”
The Very Rev. Cynthia Briggs Kittredge, Dean and President, said of Joslyn-Siemiatkoski’s promotion, “Dan’s scholarship and leadership have been of enormous value in the time he has been here. His intellectual passion and political engagement inspire and strengthen us. His commitment to his own formation in community as a priest has been a gift for us. Not only that, Seminary of the Southwest needed another Red Sox fan.”
Also receiving a promotion was The Rev. Jane Lancaster Patterson to associate professor. Patterson is the associate professor of New Testament and Director of Community Care. An aluma of Southwest, Jane brings a connectivity to the community of Southwest that is observable in all of her work. Patterson will preach at this year’s John Hines Day on October 5th.
Said Dean Kittredge, “It is hard to know what to be grateful for most about Jane Patterson’s presence on the faculty. A brilliant and poetic interpreter of scripture and a creative teacher, Jane not only teaches the bible, preaching, and pastoral care, but models and embodies those in her multifaceted vocation here.”
“Jane Patterson has gifted our community with her knowledge, care, and vision for many years,” shared Bader-Saye, “It is a joy to be able to mark her contributions with this promotion to Associate Professor. I look forward to the wisdom Jane will bring to the deliberations of the senior faculty. She has proven herself not only competent but exceptional as a teacher, advisor, scholar, priest, and pastoral caregiver in our community. We are fortunate to have someone of her abilities serving as our New Testament professor and Director of Community Care.”
