The Very Rev. Cynthia Briggs Kittredge, Dean and President of Seminary of the Southwest, announced this past spring her candidacy for the Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees. The election will be held at the 80th General Convention in Baltimore, MD, on July 9, 2022.
“With its history and resources, the Church Pension Fund plays a critical role in envisioning and articulating how to participate in the economy in a way that is inclusive, equitable, and just,” said Kittredge. “I am excited to offer my experience in spiritual leadership and sound financial management as a candidate for the CPG Board.”
The Church Pension Fund (CPF) is a financial services organization that serves the Episcopal Church. CPF and its affiliated companies, collectively referred to as the Church Pension Group (CPG), maintain three lines of business—employee benefits, property and casualty insurance, and publishing. They provide retirement, health, life insurance, and related benefits for clergy and lay employees of the Episcopal Church, as well as property and casualty insurance, and book and music publishing, including the official worship materials of the Church.
Of the 22 nominees to fill the 12 positions up for election, Kittredge is one of six women and the only seminary dean. She is also one of two candidates from Province VII, where Seminary of the Southwest is located.
In the nomination materials compiled by General Convention, Kittredge highlights the skills acquired in leading Seminary of the Southwest in a time of growth, most notably in areas of fundraising, communications, focus on mission, and fiscal prudence, including, “developing investment strategy that takes into account social responsibility.”
Trustees are elected by General Convention to serve on the Board of Trustees of CPF for 6-year terms. The CPF Board is comprised of 25 trustees, of which 24 are elected by General Convention and one is CPF’s Chief Executive Officer.
