On July 9th, at the 80th General Convention in Baltimore, MD, the Very Rev. Cynthia Briggs Kittredge, Dean and President of Seminary of the Southwest, was elected to the Church Pension Fund Board of Trustees.
“I’m honored to have been elected and very excited about working with the current board and the newly elected members,” said Kittredge. “It’s been gratifying to connect with Seminary of the Southwest alums who are at General Convention and be in touch with friends and colleagues around the church.”
The Church Pension Fund (CPF) is a financial services organization that serves the Episcopal Church. CPF and its affiliated companies, collectively referred to as the Church Pension Group (CPG), maintain three lines of business—employee benefits, property and casualty insurance, and publishing. They provide retirement, health, life insurance, and related benefits for clergy and lay employees of the Episcopal Church, as well as property and casualty insurance, and book and music publishing, including the official worship materials of the Church.
Of the 22 nominees to fill the 12 positions up for election, Kittredge was one of six women and the only seminary dean. In the nomination materials compiled by General Convention, Kittredge highlighted the skills acquired in leading Seminary of the Southwest in a time of growth, most notably in areas of fundraising, communications, focus on mission, and fiscal prudence, including, “developing investment strategy that takes into account social responsibility.”
Trustees are elected by General Convention to serve on the Board of Trustees of CPF for 6-year terms. The CPF Board is comprised of 25 trustees, of which 24 are elected by General Convention and one is CPF’s Chief Executive Officer.
