SEMINARY OF THE SOUTHWEST invites applications for a full-time Professor of Pastoral Theology and Director of Field Education to begin Fall of 2016. A seminary of the Episcopal Church located in Austin, TX, Southwest prepares Christian leaders for lay and ordained service within and outside the church. The seminary houses programs in priestly formation, professional counseling, chaplaincy, pastoral care, spiritual formation, Hispanic church studies, and general academic study.
The Pastoral Theology professor will teach courses in church leadership, congregational development, missional ministry, and evangelism. She or he will also direct theological field education and contribute to the overall formation of lay and ordained leaders within the Episcopal/Anglican tradition. The position requires full participation in the academic, pastoral, and communal life of the seminary, including student advising, liturgical leadership, and committee responsibilities. The successful candidate will have proven teaching ability, be ordained in the Episcopal Church or a church of the Anglican Communion, and have parish pastoral leadership experience. Further, the person will be prepared to engage a changing church and a changing culture in order to help students envision and enact innovative ministries. The seminary values a collegial working style and encourages inter-disciplinary conversation and team teaching. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Pastoral Theology or a closely related field, Ph.D. or Th.D. preferred. Rank is open.
