Four Southwest students have been appointed to the design team for the upcoming annual Seminarians of Color Conference, hosted by the Office of Ethnic Ministries of the Episcopal Church, which will take place March 6–9 in Miami, Florida.
MDiv middler Nelson Mendoza, focusing in Asiamerica ministries, MDiv junior Megan Allen, focusing in Black ministries, and MDiv junior Santiago Rodriguez and MDiv senior Luz Montes, both focusing in Latino ministries, will be working to coordinate workshops and speakers for the conference, open to all seminarians across the church’s 10 seminaries.
The conference aspires to bring minority seminarians together to discuss their particular faith journeys, their experiences in The Episcopal Church, and ways to advance ministry in the context of and create safer spaces for minority communities throughout the church. This year’s theme is “Building Bridges, Tearing Down Walls.”
“I think it’s a wonderful way to network with other seminarians across our church,” Montes said. “Being involved in the planning of such conferences is important because it gives us an opportunity to share and learn from each other, yet knowing that we all work to share the Good News to all.”
