Seminary of the Southwest is excited to announce that the Most Rev. Michael Curry will preach at the installation service of Dr. Scott Bader-Saye as the ninth Dean and President of Seminary of the Southwest. The service will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin, TX, at 6:30pm.
For the past nine years, Bishop Curry has served as the Presiding Bishop and Primate of The Episcopal Church, and will remain in that role until the investiture of the Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe as Presiding Bishop on November 2, 2024.
“I am honored and delighted to have Bishop Curry preach at my installation,” said Dr. Bader-Saye. “He has been a model of leadership for our church and a great supporter of Seminary of the Southwest. It will be a privilege to receive his words and wisdom as part of my transition into the role of dean and president.”
Bishop Curry has had a meaningful and long-standing relationship with Southwest, most significantly having served as Honorary Chair of Forming Leaders At the Frontier, the capital campaign which successfully raised the funds to build the Bishop Dena A. Harrison Library and new Learning Complex at Southwest. Bishop Curry preached at Southwest’s Commencement service in 2011, and was awarded a Honorary Doctorate of Divinity in 2016.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am elated to welcome Bishop Curry to Austin to preach at the installation of our ninth Dean and President, Dr. Scott Bader-Saye,” said the Rt. Rev. Kathryn M. Ryan, bishop suffragan of the Diocese of Texas and chair of the Southwest Board of Trustees. “Bishop Curry has been a long-time friend of Seminary of the Southwest, and was an instrumental leader in our campaign to successfully raise the funds to build the Harrison Library and new Learning Complex. The positive impact he has had on The Episcopal Church as Presiding Bishop has been profound, and that impact was substantially felt here at Seminary of the Southwest and the Diocese of Texas as a whole. I cannot think of a better person to help us mark the beginning of this significant new chapter here at the seminary.”
The installation service will livestreamed to the Southwest website (ssw.edu) and Facebook page.
