Fellowship is awarded to Al Rodriguez

The Episcopal Church Foundation has awarded a fellowship to the Rev. Al Rodriguez, Southwest alumnus and rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, Austin, for his project, The American Latino Outreach (ALEO), which is focused on American born Latinos and those brought into this country as young children.

"The ALEO project aims to demonstrate that a hands-on, evangelistic campaign focused on English dominant Latinos is dependent more on knowing their worship preferences and their bicultural and bilingual characteristics, than on the ability to minister and officiate liturgically in fluent Spanish," says Rodriguez.

The Fellowship Partners Program supports leaders who are pursuing special ministries or advanced academic studies to better equip future leaders for church.

Rodriguez coordinates the Hispanic Clergy Conference which is held annually on the Seminary of the Southwest campus. He has served as rector of St. John's since 1999.
