Psalm 89:1-4, 19-26 • 2 Samuel 6:1-11 • Hebrews 1:1-4
As 2020 comes to a close and we begin the new liturgical year in Advent, I needed to hear these words from Psalm 89:
I will sing of the Lord’s unfailing love forever!
Young and old will hear of your faithfulness.
Your unfailing love will last forever.
Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.
You are my God, the rock of my salvation.
Over and over again I have been reminded of God’s faithfulness, God’s love, God’s grace, God’s salvation. Time and time again, throughout these difficult months stories of how the people of God have shared God’s love and grace with others have moved me to tears. In the midst of great pain, God’s unfailing love has moved people to new places, new service, new paths, new ways of sharing how magnificent and glorious God is.
Nothing has been easy about it. Many lives have been lost. There are still struggles and injustices that need our total attention. Reconciliation needs to sweep across our lives and the lives of those around us – I think that starts by us knowing that God loves you and me. No longer are we vilified against each other, but drawn together, God’s chosen, God’s people, to love each other. Why? Because God’s unfailing love is forever and God is the rock of our salvation.
Gracious God, may we know your unfailing love. Lord Jesus your
salvation endures forever, reconcile us one to another. Amen.
