As Vice President for Advancement and Communications, Eric Scott provides strategic oversight of the seminary’s fundraising, marketing, communications, and alumni relations efforts. Eric has served in senior leadership roles within the communications and advancement departments at Seminary of the Southwest since 2013. In 2020, he was named Vice President for Communications and Marketing, and in 2025, he was appointed Vice President of the newly merged Office of Advancement and Communications.
A trusted advisor to the dean and president, Eric serves as a key ambassador for the seminary at national church gatherings such as General Convention and the Episcopal Parish Network. His leadership has shaped many of the seminary’s most visible initiatives, including the complete redesign of the seminary’s website in 2022 and the institutional rebrand in 2023. He was also a principal architect of Forming Leaders at the Frontier, the seminary’s $20 million capital campaign launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, which funded the construction of the Bishop Dena A. Harrison Library and Learning Complex.
Eric is recognized for his expertise in planning large-scale institutional events. Notable examples include the grand opening of the Harrison Library (2023), Southwest’s multi-event presence at the 2018 General Convention in Austin, the celebration of the Very Rev. Cynthia Briggs Kittredge (2024), and the installations of both Dean Kittredge (2013) and Dean Scott Bader-Saye (2025).
With more than 25 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, Eric has held leadership roles in fundraising and communications for respected organizations in both Austin and New York City. His previous positions include service with Roundabout Theatre Company, the Irish Repertory Theatre, PeopleFund, and ZACH Theatre. Before joining the seminary, he served as Chief Development Officer at Any Baby Can, an Austin-based nonprofit supporting children with special healthcare needs.
A cradle Episcopalian and great-grandson of an Episcopal priest, Eric brings a deep personal connection to the church and its mission. His strong relationships with alumni, students, and supporters enhance his ability to share the seminary’s story with clarity and conviction. A proud alumnus of the University of Texas and a native(ish) Austinite, Eric lives in Southwest Austin with his wife, Laura, and their two daughters. Their dog, Sheba, also lives with them—but enjoys the occasional escape.
